Qualifier European Championship C-Pool in Ljubljana: Day 4, August 1

Israel and Slovenia reached the final at the Qualifier European Championship C-Pool in Ljubljana on Saturday and therefore qualified for the B-Level European Championship next year. Finland and Latvia won the first classification games.

The day started with the consolation round. Latvia scored seven runs in the seventh en route to a 12-4 win over Hungary. Alvils Samoilovs surrendered four hits, four runs (3 ER) and seven walks in eight innings to pick up the win. Gabor Darabos got charged with the loss. Meanwhile Finland defeated Norway 12-2 in an All-Scandinavian matchup. Timo Liiri and Sebastian Nymark kept Norway to two runs in eight frames. Sergio Fernandez collected three hits and four RBI for Finland. Aleksander Nilson took the loss.

In the first semi-final Israel prevailed 8-3 over Romania. Three runs in the first three frames put Israel up in front. Four runs in the seventh gave them insurance. Dean Kremer laid the groundwork with 11 strikeouts in eight strong innings, allowing an unearned run on four hits. Simon Rosembaum scored twice. Dan Panaitescu did a good job keeping Romania in the game for six innings, but had to settle for the loss anyway.

In the second semi-final Slovenia stunned Ireland with a 10-3 victory to advance to the final and into the B-Pool. Slovenia scored in six of the seven innings between the second and the eighth. Martin Godnic tripled and crossed the plate four times. Jakob Trobec scored thrice. Andrej Bizjak conceded five hits, two runs and two base on balls in five solid innings of relief. Nathanial Anglin was responsible for ten hits, seven runs (4 ER) and seven walks in seven innings to take the loss.
