WBCQ Jupiter: Israel downs South Africa in Florida Opener
Israel had a perfect start into the World Baseball Classic Qualifier in Jupiter, Florida. They scored six of their seven runs in the last three innings of a 7-3 win over South Africa. Nate Freiman belted a pair of solo homeruns to spark their offense. South Africa’s offense didn’t wake up until the ninth inning, when they rallied for three runs. Charles Cutler drove in three for Israel. On the mound six different pitchers took the mound for Israel, as starter Eric Berger surprisingly ended up with the win even though he pitched only three innings of scoreless two-hit ball. South Africa’s Dylan Unsworth struck out six in six strong innings, allowing just six hits and a run, but still ended up with the loss.
